The police officer that killed Laquan McDonald was Jason Van Dyke, who was later fired by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and charged with murder for an on duty shooting. The tragic phenomena that occured with Laquan McDonald has sparked the silent to speak for what is truly right. There were numerous calls for the federal government to investigate the Chicago Police Department and find what other hidden brutal threats or killings have occurred.
While there are suspicions with the CPD, there are also lawsuits being charged against police officers due to excessive force. For example, Lisa Simmons sues the CPD for using excessive force with her and Jeremiah Smith. In addition, in Huffington Post it stated that Black Chicagoans are 10 times more likely to be shot by a police officer. It further stated statistics that in 2011, Blacks were 77% of CPD's youth arrest. And the shootings of black teens continue with Johnson, a Black teen being shots by Chicago police officers on 53rd South King Drive. However, there are consequences to the unneccesary actions of the authority. For example, Garry F. McCarthy has been resigned from his position as head of CPD.
