Laquan McDonald, only 17 years old was a victim of police brutality and whose family was paid a total of 5 million dollars to keep the murder secret. The police officer that killed Laquan McDonald was Jason Van Dyke, who was later fired by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and charged with murder for an on duty shooting. The tragic phenomena that occured with Laquan McDonald has sparked the silent to speak for what is truly right. There were numerous calls for the federal government to investigate the Chicago Police Department and find what other hidden brutal threats or killings have occurred.
While there are suspicions with the CPD, there are also lawsuits being charged against police officers due to excessive force. For example, Lisa Simmons sues the CPD for using excessive force with her and Jeremiah Smith. In addition, in Huffington Post it stated that Black Chicagoans are 10 times more likely to be shot by a police officer. It further stated statistics that in 2011, Blacks were 77% of CPD's youth arrest. And the shootings of black teens continue with Johnson, a Black teen being shots by Chicago police officers on 53rd South King Drive. However, there are consequences to the unneccesary actions of the authority. For example, Garry F. McCarthy has been resigned from his position as head of CPD.

Justice for Laquan Mcdonald
The murder of Laquan Mcdonald by Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke actuated profound reactions. Once the murder(video) began to spread, protesting immediately followed in all parts of Chicago such as the Downtown and the Southside of Chicago. The murder supposedly occurred in 2014 but the crime was silenced by the parents of the Laquan with the $500,000 in collateral. This negotiation was said that Rahm Emmanuel voted to silence the death of Laquan between officials, Jason Van Dyke, and the Mcdonald's parents. Not only has this phenomena show how young black lives are a target, but also how racism still surfaces and affects an individual's daily actions.
